Example
The number of traffic violations recorded by a police department for a 10-day period is shown. Find the percentile rank of the data value 16.

Arrange the data from lowest to highest

Count how many data entries are less than your data point
There are 3 data points below 16, namely: 9, 12, and 15
Plug into formula
\[\text{Percentile}=\left(\text{number of values below }X\right)\cdot\frac{100}{\text{total number of data points}}\]
\[=3\cdot \frac{100}{10}=30^{\text{th}}\text{ percentile}\]
